Human head dumped on road. . . as holiday death toll rises

THE police have appealed to members of the public to come forward and assist in the identification of a human head that was found on Christmas Day at the centre of a road in Kutama in Mashonaland West Province. In a statement, national police spokesperson Chief Superintendent Paul Nyathi said the human head which had been partially ravished was found lying on the centre of Mabvure-Masiyarwa dust road.

“Police are appealing to the public to assist with information which may lead to the identification and establish leads in a case where a human head comprising right cheek, half chin, right eye, full nose, right upper and lower jaw, and protruding tongue was found lying at the centre of Mabvure-Masiyarwa dust road in Kutama on 25 December,” said Chief Sup Nyathi.

The police spokesperson said anyone with information about the head could contact their nearest police station or the National Complaints Desk on telephone number (04) 703631.

In an unrelated incident, police have arrested an armed robber Shanganani Ndlovu (32), who was involved in a robbery case at Agribank Maphisa, Kezi, with his colleagues Gift Moyo alias Thando (30), and Leavender Moyo who is still at large.
Gift was arrested and is serving a 12-year sentence at Khami Prison.
Ndlovu and Leavender had on Christmas Eve teamed up to break into Power Sales, Chinhoyi, where they stole cash amounting to $4 145.

“Ndlovu was arrested on his way to Bulawayo near Mbembesi while boarding a commuter omnibus. A total of $714 and a detonating cable were recovered from the accused. The cable was the one used to blast the safe at Power Sales Chinhoyi.

“On 24 December at 2am, the two teamed up and broke into the Power Sales branch where they stole cash amounting $4 145,” said the police spokesperson.

In the Agribank Kezi robbery the trio had on 2 September 2014 pounced on the bank and got away with 47 000 Rand and $3 200.
Meanwhile, the country’s death toll due to road accidents has risen to 78 compared to 69 during the same period of 15 December to 26 December, last year.
The country has recorded a total of 963 accidents while last year by 26 December, 766 had been recorded. A total of 535 people have been injured compared to 345 last year.

Chief Sup Nyathi revealed that traffic police had to date impounded 2 183 vehicles due to unroad worthiness and also issued 89 656 tickets for various traffic offences.

“The Zimbabwe Republic Police encourages drivers and all travellers to continue exercising caution on the road and prevent accidents,” said Chief Sup Nyathi.
