The Hwange Youth Empowerment Initiative (HYEI) has donated sanitary pads to Neshaya High School which is located in the outskirts of Hwange town.

The organisation partnered with  Nduna Trust to donate 100 reusable pads and a similar number of ordinary pads to school children on Friday.

The pads were sourced from the community and positive responses came from communities in Number One, Empumalanga,  Baobab and Chibondo.

One of the members of the group, Ms Lethubuhle Ndlovu said they noted that most young girls in rural areas were not able to purchase sanitary pads and decided to chip in.

“I was inspired by my friend who donated pads to vulnerable girls on her birthday. I then did the same too on my birthday but continued even after my birthday until this day,” said Ms Ndlovu.

The beneficiaries were also taught how to wash and use the reusable pads. Male students were also allowed to attend the session so they also understand and appreciate the natural progression that females go through.

Members of the Lions Club International also stepped in to support the Hwange youths vision.

Mr Glen Ncube, who attended the session and also contributed to the initiative, praised youths in Hwange for their generosity. He added that there was need to also look at issues affecting young boys. Other leaders of  HYEI are Mr Gerald Musengi and Ms Wendy Ndlovu.
