AN Information Communications Technology (ICT) expert and his family have reportedly been missing for the past week, with neighbours now raising alarm and have since launched a public appeal for their whereabouts.

Evans Vete (39), who stays in Budiriro suburb in Harare together with his wife Clearance and three children reportedly went missing from their house with indications that they could have left in a hurry as their house doors and windows were left opened.

Vete was working for a local Internet Service Provider and was once employed at the Government parastatal; ZARNet for 11 years where he worked as a network engineer, rising to the post of technical director and was also at one point the acting chief executive officer.

According to neighbours, the open windows and doors had made them to suspect that something was amiss, considering the family was a jovial one which always made sure to interact with them.

“At first we thought it was a genuine oversight for them to leave the windows and doors opened but when we saw the situation remaining the same for three days, we realised that something was wrong, we approached the police and were told that there is no proof that the family was missing and further they said since we were not related with them we could not report the matter.

“That is when some of our neighbours then informed us that Evans had previously confided in them that he was living in fear as they were moves to force him back to his previous employ in government so that he uses his ICT skills to influence next year’s elections,” said the neighbor who declined to be named.

The neighbours claimed that Evans had said he had been approached by some individuals who had implored unknown action if he did not return to ZARNet.

“We are now not sure whether the family is genuinely away or they are missing hence our appeal for anyone that might be aware of their whereabouts to assist us with information,” said another neighbour.
