HIGHLANDERS are still on the lookout for talented junior players as part of plans to have a larger talented feeder group for the senior team.

The trials were last week conducted by the Bosso junior coaches of the three age groups Gift Lunga Jnr, Sizabantu Khoza and Danny Ngwenya respectively.

Lunga was not happy with the number of boys who showed up for the exercise on the first day and blamed it on the opening of schools, however, he expected the number to increase.

“This attendance for the juniors trials his since got better as compared to when we started as it stands we have identified a total of five which we will go on to assess again. In due course his group will fight for places against the ones that we have from the last year group,” said Lunga.

On what was the need to conduct trials when the team already has its own junior teams in all the age groups Lunga said as a club they cannot be satisfied with what they have.

“It is true that we have young players at Bosso but in football you can never get satisfied with what you have hence talent identification is an ongoing process,’’ he said.

We are doing this so that we have able boys to feed the senior team when time comes, at the same time we are not looking for players for specific positions, but just talented players, ”added Lunga

His sentiments were also echoed by Sibekiwe Ndlovu an official from the ladies team who had a similar problem from the ladies side.

As a result Ndlovu said to due logistical problems on the girl efforts are underway to go and conduct trials at their respective areas that is at schools and residential areas to cut costs on the participants’ side.

As part of the efforts to promote the ladies team, Harare-based lawyer Vulindlela “VB” Sibanda donated 10 soccer balls plus golf T-shirts to Highlanders Royals.
