EVERY Sunday, we speak about the abilities and our rights as Christians but it hardly ever knocks in us that maybe we should tell people about the man that gives us this ability. For me, you can never do it better than our Lord Jesus.
Jesus Christ is the head of our church. Christ himself you cannot change. A lot of things in the church may be changed, but not the head of the church. Christ is the head, we work and act under his instruction.
If you remove Christ who is the head of the church, then you replace him with something else, you can be sure the church is no longer a church, it is now a demon infested social gathering.
Jesus Christ himself is the head of the church. He is the one that dictates what is done and how it is done, he maintains order in the church the same way the human head maintains order in the body through calculated and quick instructions. The head itself makes contact with the body. Christ does the same for us. He monitors the church and ensures everything is going well.
Philippians 2 verse 9 to 11
Therefore God exalted him to the highest place and gave Him the name that is above every name, that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, in Heaven and on earth and under the earth, and every tongue confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.
If you have no reason to wake up every Sunday and go to church to worship, the name of Jesus is reason enough. This is the very foundation of our Christian faith. It is summed up in one name. Jesus. Jesus Christ is our Lord and Saviour. It is by Him that we enjoy the life we live today and we will be in Heaven in the future.
The word of God says He has been exalted to the highest place. It means no matter what position you have in the physical or in the spirit, Jesus is still higher. Think of this. The world is full of very powerful people. People with amazing accomplishments. Some of them almost appear to be obsessed with their titles. A good example of one of the most outrageous people was Ugandan dictator Idi Amin. These are some of his titles. Forgive me if I don’t cover all of them because there are actually more than these. His excellency, president for life, field marshal, Al Hadji, Doctor Idi Amin, Dada, VC, DSO, mc, lord of the beasts of the earth, fish of the sea and conqueror of the British empire in Africa in general and Uganda in particular.
Jesus is higher than all these. He is higher than the British Empire which the late Idi Amin bragged about conquering. The devil himself knows that there is a man higher. In Mark 5 verse 7 demons in a man practically begged for mercy. He shouted at the top of his voice, “What do you want with me, Jesus, Son of the Most High God? Swear to God that you won’t torture me!” Jesus holds a higher office. And by Him being there, they confess Son of the Most High.
The name of Jesus is like a password or access key for us. We have free will to use it because the Bible says we are joint heirs together with Him.
The name of Jesus is an authority across everything. An authoritative name is one that can get things done, open doors, shut them, move heavy obstacles and make your life easier. I have many experiences where I have seen authority in a name work.
One particular incident was when I went to a car parts shop to try and get a spare part on credit on behalf of the company I was working for. The owner immediately said we do not offer a credit facility. I then went back to the managing director to ask for an increase in the purchasing budget. He said to me. “Go and tell him I said he must give you all you need.” With the right authority name, I got the spare parts. He would often say to me: “Go and press the password,” meaning go and say my name.
On a broader and more powerful scale, the name of Jesus is a universal password when you apply it. It makes things possible.
When you talk to God, it only gets to Him when you send your prayer with the password. Praying in the name of Jesus brings one before God. When you evangelise you win more when you do it with the password, when you work, press the password.
When you are in trouble, simply press the password. The name of Jesus is a power source.
The name of Jesus can save
Romans 10 verse 13
13 for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.”
Human beings have been created to be superior over all creation because we are just like God Himself. This did not go down well with the devil and other angels that fell from Heaven with him.
They made it their mission to come into the dwelling place of humans created by God to try and create destruction and deceive as many of us as they can so that we receive the same judgement of condemnation as them. All this is driven by an evil and proud heart within the devil himself.
God seeing this He made many efforts to return human beings to Himself. He did this using prophets of old who were pre-runners of Jesus Christ.
They were all preparing the world to receive the messiah. They all played a big part in the big project God gave them. But the final part in the puzzle was Jesus Christ Himself. He is the answer to salvation of humanity. Him coming on earth, being born, living and dying all have significance to each of us. Ultimately the name of Jesus is the only name by which human beings can find salvation.
