Letters to the Editor: We urgently need a clinic

The Sunday News

Eddious Masundire Shumba, Mberengwa.

Residents of Mawani in Mberengwa District are appealing to the government through the Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education as well as the District Development Fund to consider building a clinic and a Secondary School near Mawani Primary School in the District.

It is very sad that there are still some wards or districts in the country which still don’t have clinics or proper schools. Villagers of Mawani in Mberengwa are a very good example because all their cries to have a clinic have fallen on deaf ears. Many people have died on their way to Mnene Mission Hospital which is more than 30km away while being transported in ox drawn scotch carts.

The situation is very bad for Mawani residents whose road which links their village with Mnene Hospital and also Mataga Musume growth point is in a very bad state and already all the buses which used to service the area have pulled their vehicles out of the Musume Mnene route. There is a clinic at Vutika but that clinic is also very far and cannot service all the villages since it is just a very small clinic with only one nurse. Mawani village has no secondary school and pupils walk very long distances to either Mnene Mission school or Vutika secondary school, which are very far for young children. We hope the plight of the villagers will be heard by the Government.
