A 24-YEAR-OLD man from the Masera area, under Chief Tshitaudze in Beitbridge allegedly went berserk last Wednesday night and stabbed his ex-wife with a spear as punishment for securing a peace order at the courts against him.
After that the man hanged himself near the woman’s homestead. It is reported that Rifilile Mukwena had a long-standing domestic dispute with Agness Hlongwane, which resulted in them going separate ways. However, the man is accused of continuing to harass Hlongwane who then secured a peace order against him at the Beitbridge Civil Court.
“He followed the woman to her stepfather’s homestead where she was now staying and was armed with a spear at around 2050 hours on Wednesday evening. Upon seeing him, Hlongwane ran away and hid in her bedroom and locked herself inside. Her stepfather then approached Mukwena and talked him into stopping the fight but he failed and went away to get the man’s sister to refrain him.”
While the step father went to seek Mukwena’s relative, he forced open the door to where Hlongwane was hiding and dragged her outside. He then stabbed her once with a spear on the left side of the chest and went away and hanged himself from a nearby tree.
The woman’s lifeless body was discovered by her stepfather when he returned and was also informed by his daughter about the murder. The police officer commanding Beitbridge district, Chief Superintendent Tichaona Nyongo, confirmed the incident yesterday. He said the remains of the duo had been taken to the Beitbridge District Hospital Mortuary for post-mortem. — @tupeyo
