LEE McHoney is probably the hottest up-and-coming female musical sensation right now to emerge from the City of Kings.

Born Linda Nyauchi, McHoney, who says she is greatly influenced by musicians such as America’s Jhene Aiko, Ammara Brown and the late Chiwoniso Maraire, is ready to launch her debut album — Wakandinyepera.

Her debut project consists of 6 tracks and was locally produced.

“It’s basically a compilation of love songs, inspired by love and hurt. The instrumentals were done at Octopus Sound Lab, while the vocals and mixing were done at Volte face Records,” she said.

McHoney who says she has always been passionate about music, turning her dream into reality, features local award winning rapper — Cal_Vin — in a few of her songs.

“Cal_Vin features in some of the tracks on the album,” she said.

McHoney, a computer engineer by profession, is set to launch her album on 8 April this year at Groove Night Club, housed at rainbow Hotel.

“I will perform a live set on the day of the launch, where several other artistes will be performing,” she said.

She noted that she was working on shooting a video for the track Hurting Me.

“It took me about three months to work on this project. I didn’t want to rush through and produce a mediocre project that people would just throw away. I wanted it to be perfect and that is why I took my time. So far I am working towards shooting a video for one of the tracks on the album,” she said.

McHoney fuses her own style with that of her inspirational predecessors.

“I adore those musical queens’ styles and I want to fuse what I have picked up from them. I ventured into the music industry last year and I have collaborated with a few popular names in the music industry. I have worked with Cal_Vin, Calvin Treazy where I feature in a track on his debut EP — Young and Getting It,” said McHoney.

Lee McHoney has so far only had a single live performance but hopes to have an opportunity to have more live performances.
“My first live performance was at the Chibuku Road to Fame competition this year. I love singing and hope to perform more at other events,” she said.
