DEPUTY Minister of Mines and Mining Development, Cde Fred Moyo, has dismissed media reports that he was fished out of Vice-President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s family gathering at his rural home in Zvishavane recently by rowdy youths who accused him of belonging to former Vice President Joice Mujuru’s camp which stands accused of plotting to topple President Mugabe.

Cde Moyo said the allegations were a gross misrepresentation of facts and misinterpretation of events by overzealous journalists who sought to sensationalise issues and misinform the public.

The Standard newspaper alleged that “the celebrations were however not without incident as deputy Mines Minister Freddy Moyo, was ejected out of the heavily fenced compound on allegations that he supported Mujuru”.

Cde Moyo said he was not ejected as alleged by the Standard but instead he left on his own after Zimbabwe ambassador to South Africa Ambassador Isaac Moyo asked him to accompany him to Harare where he was supposed to catch a flight.

“I went to Vice President Mnangagwa’s rural home together with Ambassador Moyo. We wanted to congratulate him and hand over some parcels to the organising team. It was during the visit that I had a heated argument with Cdes Larry Mavhima and John Holder pertaining to issues to do with the two Zvishavane constituencies.

“We excused ourselves from the rest of the people and we had our discussion some few metres from the gathering. We did raise voices on each other which I think was not appropriate.

“My suspicion is that the reporter who wrote the story misinterpreted what was happening. I felt that it was not the right place to discuss about our constituencies since we had come for a different thing altogether,” he said.

Cde Moyo said the programme started late and Ambassador Moyo had to leave before Cde Mnangagwa arrived at the venue because he wanted to catch a flight to South Africa.

“When we got to Zvishavane we thought Vice President Mnangagwa would come to his rural home first before proceeding to Gweru to visit inmates at Queen of Peace Psychiatric and Rehabilitation Centre.

“We were then informed that he would visit the inmates first on his way to Zvishavane. Ambassador Moyo had a meeting with Cdes Joram Gumbo and Josiah Hungwe before we informed Vice President Mnangagwa that we were leaving,” he said.
