ZANU-PF secretary for security for Kushinga District in Kwekwe Marco Msipa, who recently was allegedly assaulted by Kwekwe Central Member of Parliament Masango “Blackman” Matambanadzo and his bodyguard has lost his right eye reportedly due to the assault, a court heard.
Msipa, who is also being charged for allegedly assaulting Matambanadzo and his bodyguard, Beden Mawire pleaded not guilty when he appeared before Kwekwe magistrate Mr Taurai Manuwere.

Msipa was remanded out of custody to 7 October after he requested for more time to receive medical treatment after doctors indicated that his right eye was permanently damaged and had completely lost sight.

A medical report was produced in court to ascertain that he had turned blind on his right eye due to the assault after he was allegedly attacked by Matambanadzo and Mawire.

Msipa told Sunday News that he sustained a swollen right eye after he was attacked by the duo and he never recovered.

“The doctors have confirmed that my right eye has been permanently damaged. I am going to undergo an operation that would prevent the eye from developing cancer.

“I have a medical report which confirms that the eye was damaged due to the assault after I was beaten by MP Matambanadzo and his bodyguard.

“I was supposed to appear in court but I requested for more time to receive treatment after doctors indicated that I needed to undergo an operation,” he said

Matambanadzo and Mawire allegedly severely assaulted Msipa at Amaveni Shopping Centre.
Msipa was assaulted with booted feet and fists all over the body.

Members of the public had to intervene to save Msipa from further assault after he sustained a deep cut on the eye.
Msipa said he was coming from work when he was called by Matambanadzo to his shop at Amaveni Shopping Centre where he was then attacked by his two assailants.

He was taken to Kwekwe District Hospital where he was referred to Harare after he sustained internal injuries on the eye.

The matter was reported to the police.
Matambanadzo also made a counter report to the effect that he had been assaulted by Msipa.

The Kwekwe Central legislator and Mawire appeared in court and were remanded out of custody on $50 bail.
Matambanadzo is also facing charges of assaulting Gokwe-Kana MP Cde Owen Ncube after he attacked him at the same business centre following a misunderstanding.
