No sacred cows in fight against corruption: VP Chiwenga

VICE-President Constantino Chiwenga has vowed to deal with corrupt Government and party officials decisively, adding that there will be no sacred cows.

Addressing thousands of villagers at a Mega Field Day at President Emmerson Mnangagwa’s Precabe Farm on the outskirts of Kwekwe on Thursday, where he was the guest of honour, VP Chiwenga said Zanu-PF and Government were fumigating itself from corrupt officials and would leave no stone unturned. He said corruption should not be tolerated and it was incumbent upon the Government to eradicate corruption and rebuild the economy.

“Let’s all shun corruption for the betterment of our country. Mhandu munhu asingade kuona vanhu vachifara. That’s why even in our national anthem we sing ‘tidzivirire kune mhandu dzose’. Such people are enemies of progress,” he said.

“If anyone is caught engaging in corruption he/she will be jailed no matter who they are. For example the Government gives people farming inputs and some farmers end up selling those farming inputs. That is wrong and we don’t want it,” he said.

VP Chiwenga also urged villagers to remain united as they move forward.

“As a nation we need to move forward and let the past be. So let’s all be united and stop fighting each other,” he said.

He urged miners to conserve the environment by reclaiming mining pits when they are done mining.

“Let’s conserve our environment. Don’t just mine and leave the place like that after getting your minerals. Make sure you reclaim those pits because not doing so is destroying our country. There is no other Zimbabwe that will be given to us once we destroy this country. We need to know that this country is the inheritance that we need to leave behind for our children and grandchildren,” he said.

The Vice-President encouraged villagers to emulate President Mnangagwa’s work as one of the successful farmers in Zimbabwe, a clear sign that he is an exemplary leader.

“Let’s go to our respective places and implement what we have learnt here at the President’s farm. Whether it’s in rural areas, in towns or in farms let’s go and put our land to good use,” he said.
