THE newly formed Zimbabwe African National Congress (ZANC) is counting on millions of Zimbabweans based in neighbouring South Africa to influence their families back home to vote for their party in 2023.

Led by South Africa-based Zimbabwe businessman Mr Timothy Mncube, the ZANC was launched on 5 February in South Africa. Mr Mncube said they are banking on Zimbabweans in Mzansi to recommend his party to those based in Zimbabwe.

“There are millions of Zimbabweans living in South Africa and most of them are breadwinners for their families back home, most Zimbabweans are clustered in one place e.g. Hillbrow, Yeoville, Berea. We have already started engaging them in those communities sharing with them our vision and also listening to their views and opinions on how they would want to see change and we have a referral system whereby they refer us to their families in Zimbabwe and “our team in Zimbabwe follows through, as you know a breadwinner is influential, their families will give us the numbers we need,’’ Mr Mncube said.

According to Mr Mncube, they already have a team on the ground in Zimbabwe pushing the party’s agenda as the new baby looks to make an impact come the 2023 elections. The Zimbabwe Electoral Commission in September last year acknowledged the existence of the ZANC.
