Colourful winter wear

Rutendo Chidawanyika

THE winter season begins and suddenly all bright colour clothes are pushed to the back of the closet. Who ever said winter was all about navy, black and different shades of brown, have no idea what they are missing out on.

Winter is a bleak season in terms of the colour it brings, thanks to fashion trends we can add some colour to our winter wardrobe. There is no rule of wearing/ or not wearing colour in the cold season. Do not listen to people when they say that fancy winter wear does not make the chill go away. Any kind of woollens will make your chilly days warm, it doesn’t matter what colour and design.

The winter season is cold, the skies are grey and everything feels gloomy; therefore you have to brighten your days in the form of fashion. Avoid wearing one colour from head-to-toe, black is classic and timeless however, should you go with all black; do add a bright coloured scarf, shoes or handbag. Even if you are wearing a grey sweater and grey pants then add a hint of colour such as white or pink to break that monotony.

If you are not a fan of mixing and matching your clothes, then colourful accessories such as hats, gloves, neck pieces etc will do the trick. Do not go overboard with colours but make sure there is some element of colour and interesting texture in each outfit.

Do not wear something that makes you uncomfortable. If you are not a fan of a mini and thigh high boots, team it up with a stockings or just opt for pants with ankle boots. You don’t have to wear the traditional black or brown boots. There is a variety of colours which are trendy, such as the red, burgundy, olive, nude and many more.

Apart from boots; sneakers are the must have winter shoes. Not only are sneakers trendy but they are super comfortable. You can opt for bright coloured sneakers; lime, pink, orange or even the ones with patterns. You can never go wrong with sneakers because they provide warmth and comfort.

Colourful caps and hats look wonderful and can make you look stylish as well as keep you warm. Same goes for cute woollen ear muffs. So get some colour and texture in your outfit and show off your taste with style!

What’s winter without jackets and coats? When it comes to jackets/ coats choose tweed jackets, leather jackets, and woollen sweaters etc. While black is a staple we all have; invest in a good quality coat with prints such as check, polka dot and hounds tooth. Not only will it make you look sophisticated, but it will also help you stand out in a crowd. Choose a cut and shape that suits your body type. From trench coats, belted coats to pea coats — choose whatever suits you best.

Everyone has been crushing on VELVET this winter, it is so gorgeous, especially when blended with other textures such as leather and silk. It can be dressed up or dressed down, all the while looking romantic. Find the perfect velvet blouse or camisole that’s comforting and cozy on the skin — in daring colours; try fuschia, nude, green and blush pink. We are all for the velvet tracksuits and dresses too.

A unique structural bag adds personality to an outfit, but it also works for a polished look. Pick one with a strap  that you can toss over the shoulders for a day of errands or a high-end top handle that adds a sophisticated touch for a fancy dinner. Go for winter bags constructed of suede, fur, and satin, but leather is the most practical for casual style.

Winters might be long and chilly. But that only means you have that many options to dress up in different styles and be comfortable. Add to that the wonderful thought that all those layers hide your flab, and winters will soon be your favorite time of the year! Just team up the right colors together and look fashionably comfortable this winter season.

We look forward to some colour this winter, orange, white, green and yellow. Dare to pop that colour this season.
