PRESIDENT Mugabe has expressed gratitude to Zanu-PF members for repairing the damage to the ruling party’s ship, steadying it and getting it out of the storm into calmer waters after over 200 disciplinary cases that included the Joice Mujuru plot to remove him from power, threatened the stability of the country’s biggest political party.
The removal of former party senior members such as Mujuru, Didymus Mutasa, Rugare Gumbo, Jabulani Sibanda, David Butau, Ray Kaukonde, Olivia Muchena, Temba Mliswa, Dzikamai Mavhaire, Kudakwashe Bhasikiti, Claudius Makova, and Kudakwashe Gopo was thought to be Zanu-PF’s Waterloo, but the party is still standing.

In his foreword in the Central Committee Report to the 15th Annual National People’s Conference, which ended in Victoria Falls yesterday President Mugabe extolled loyal party cadres for standing steadfast and preventing the party from disintegrating.

“I would want to applaud all the Party cadres for working hard in order to restore the Party’s stability that followed the expulsion and suspension of some of the errant members during the year following a resolution of the 6th National People’s Congress in December last year to deal decisively with indiscipline, factionalism and corruption among the Party members,” said President Mugabe.

The Zanu-PF Central Committee Report reveals that the over 200 disciplinary cases were drawn from all the 10 provinces.
“The rationale for the vote of no confidence passed on members varied and related to disloyalty to the party leadership, ethos and values. Those within the party’s ranks caused disharmony, fanned factionalism and engaged in corruption were bought before the (Zanu-PF) National Disciplinary Committee.

“The National Disciplinary Committee considered cases individually and passed appropriate individual judgments that include expulsion, suspension, reprimand and cautionary,” the report read.

According to the account, members are suspended for two to five years are now just ordinary card carrying members. These members still enjoy the rights and duties of membership as stipulated by Article 3 sections 20 and 21 of the Zanu-PF constitution.

Suspended members of Parliament who were not recalled continue with development work in their constituencies subject to approval from the Zanu-PF leadership in their districts.

This year, about 14 members were suspended from holding a position of leadership for five years. A total of 112 people were put on ice from occupying leadership positions for two years while three are not going to contest for a leadership post for a year.

The document makes known that eight disciplinary cases were dismissed by the Politburo. Five cases are still pending before the National Disciplinary Committee. One individual was reprimanded.
