THE initiative to rope in diasporans to play a key role in developing their areas of origin is paying off in Bulilima District, Matabeleland South with major projects especially in the health and education sector being implemented.

In an interview, Bulilima Rural District Council chief executive officer, Mr John Brown Ncube said they were working on five hospitals, schools and community halls.

“The initiative of having a clinic in every ward has been successful, with three clinics almost done in Bambadzi Ward, Malansizwa Ward and Matjinge Ward.

“The only thing left for these three clinics are staff houses and plumbing. In Bambadzi Ward the clinic is partially roofed, therefore we are still raising funds for its ceiling while Mambo Clinic is at slab level,” he said.

Mr Ncube said council was impressed with the help they are getting from diasporans and the community.

“We are proud of our children who are outside the country and we wish more people could join this initiative and plough back to their communities.

“We also plead with the Government, non-governmental organisations and individuals to help us so that the health and education services are accessible to every individual,” said Mr Ncube.

Meanwhile, Bulilima District has also managed to build four schools. Matshaligwe Secondary School in ward seven and Ntulungwe Secondary School in Nathan Ward which await commissioning.

He said those under construction are Tjemahale Secondary School in Khame Ward and Ndiweni Primary School in Ndiweni Ward.

Mr Ncube said two community halls were under construction, Nhungwa Community Hall in Ndolwane Ward and Nyele Community Hall in Nyele Ward.

Diasporans from the area have chipped in with various materials such as cement to help in infrastructural development in the district. Some have donated buses to various schools in the district.
