THE Rotary Club of Hwange has recently donated various textbooks and medicines worth thousands of dollars to Hwange School of Nursing in a move that is meant to boost provision of quality healthcare.

The books cover various subjects such as Beginners in Nursing, Pharmacology, Human Anatomy, Psychology and Hematology.

Presenting the donation, Rotary Club of Hwange president Mr Zack Mahupete said the move was meant to boost the institution’s library and knowledge base to ensure top-notch graduates who will use their expertise to develop communities.

“The donation is made up of brand-new medical books which we got from our partners in America, it came in as a container worth over US$1 million.

“We then put them into their respective categories and donated to universities that do medical training and training hospitals.

“In Matabeleland and Bulawayo all 19 training medical hospitals are getting books too. As Rotary Club of Hwange, health is one of our focus area and as we endeavour for health for all we decided to make this donation,” said Mr Mahupete.

The club is also running various programmes targeting rural communities, health and educational institutions.

“We recently put up a borehole at Dampa Secondary School while in Lupote we also established an irrigation that supports the primary school so that children don’t stop attending school because of hunger. We also mobilised funds and bought sanitary wear for girls in the rural areas.

“We also support children with albinism through purchasing special lotions for them as well as attending to issues of sight that affect some of them by taking them to the optician.”

Receiving the donation on behalf of the school, the acting principal, Mr Joshua Munsaka said the gesture would not only benefit students but the whole institution hence enhancing access and provision of health care in the district.

“It is actually good that they have identified us, these books are going to go a long way in assisting the students and our staff as this is a teaching hospital.

“We have all the cadres that are there in health care; nurses, doctors, physiotherapists, pharmacists, radiographers, dental therapists, lab scientists and public health specialists.

“All these people benefit from this library since it is the only one available within the hospital premises and will be a reference resource centre for those that want to do their studies or refer for any cases they would want to conduct researches.

“To us it is a blessing and a gift we cherish,” he said.
