ZIMBABWE has sent a strong contingent of 27 junior players to the annual South African Inter-provincial Tournament which started yesterday.

The tourney, taking place across four cities in South Africa concludes on Wednesday.

There are two Under-16 teams, Under-14 side, Under-13 and an Under-11 team, all made up of boys, that travelled to the neighbouring country. Under-13 coach and manager, Pieter Bezuidenhout said they are looking forward to a successful tour.

He said the players have been looking forward to the tourney and are geared towards achieving some success.

The Under-16A boys’ side is made up of Tayne Turnock, Harry Lawton, Aedan Martin, Taurai Tugwete and Roy Jambo while in the under 16B is composed of Brighton Nyakabawo, Rameez Ahmed, Ryan Landman, Damian Shaw, Warren Crowhurst and Joel Reid.

They travelled with coach, Mike Lawton, managers Murray Martin and Kevin Shaw and are playing in Bloemfontein.

The Under-14 team, which is coached and managed by Ahmed Hassan, has Brian Bennett, Muzuva Gutu (injured so not playing but travelling on tour), David Bennett, Sean Rogers, Ryan Dean and Xavier Alves and are playing in Johannesburg.

Bezuidenhout travelled with Bulawayo-based player, Ryan Gwidzima, Nicholas Paul, Daniel Bezuidenhout, Hamzah Patel and Mark Johnson and his team will be playing in Pietermaritzburg.

The Under-11 side has five players, namely Sean Bennett, Nicholas Anderson, Kohl Eksteen, Anotida Mlambo and Dhiren Ramabhai, who are in Pretoria.

The interprovincial tournaments involve junior players from all over South Africa and have become a main fixture in the juniors squash calendar over the year.
