TUSKERS are now on top of the log in the country’s premier first class cricket competition, the Logan Cup after they defeated Eagles by seven wickets at Harare Sports Club on Saturday.

It was the second win for Tuskers in the Logan Cup after beat Rhinos by five wickets at Old Hararians. Tuskers are yet to lose in the 2021/22 season with two wins and a draw, which sees them on top of the log with 25 points.

Against Eagles, Tuskers bowled out their opponents for 329 in their first innings with Ernest Masuku picking up five wickets for 62 runs before they went on to post 439.

Craig Ervine top scored for Tuskers with 183 and wicketkeeper Clive Madande was second best with 117. Eagles pace bowler Tanaka Chivanga had 5/81.Luke Jongwe took 4/24 with the Eagles blown away for 239 in their second innings, which left Tuskers requiring 130 runs to win. Ervine top scored for Tuskers with 55 not out while fellow left hander, Milton Shumba was also unconquered on 33 when Tuskers crossed the finish line in 32.4 overs.

Despite the loss, Eagles are second on the log with 20 points with two wins and the same number of defeats.

Across the capital city at OH, the match between Mountaineers and Southern Rocks ended in a draw. Mountaineers are third while Rhinos are fourth.

Rocks, the reigning Logan Cup champions, are now the only team without a victory so far this season, although they do have 10 points from two drawn matches.
