WOMEN should be at the forefront of ensuring that their families are safe from contracting Covid-19 by exercising personal hygiene as this would ensure a healthy nation that is geared at eliminating the spread of the pandemic, Zanu-PF Secretary for Women’s Affairs Cde Mabel Chinomona has said.

Personal hygiene is a prerequisite in preventing the novel coronavirus as the World Health Organisation (WHO) has advised.

The wearing of face masks, regular washing of hands and social distancing are some of the precautionary practices that have to be followed in containing Covid-19.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa last Wednesday launched the distribution of 50 000 face masks to all the 10 provinces which will go a long way in aiding a number of raft measures put in place by the Government to minimise the spread of Covid-19.

In an interview on the sidelines of the handing over ceremony of 15 000 face masks and food hampers sourced from the business sector in Bulawayo yesterday, Cde Chinomona said it is the role of women to ensure the nation gears up to fight the spread of the pandemic.

The face masks would be distributed to Bulawayo, Matabeleland South and North provinces. Cde Chinomona said the Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) would be distributed to all citizens regardless of political affiliation.

“We are encouraging women of the nation to listen to what they are being told by exercising personal hygiene which is achieved by washing of hands and wearing of masks in a public space. Women have a role to play in homes by making sure that children are clean, they are bathed now and then. If members of the public through the role played by women adhere to the health regulations it is easy when they go out there to the public,” said Cde Chinomona.

Cde Chinomona praised efforts made by the business sector through donations of food hampers countrywide which have come timeously as a number of people are faced with hunger due to the drought the country is experiencing.

“Once a woman has something to cook for her children, they feel very proud and in that manner they fully execute their duties which is to nurture a progressive ad adherent family,” she said.

Zanu-PF Women’s League Deputy Secretary Cde Angeline Masuku expressed gratitude to the Women’s League for looking after the needs of women.

“We are grateful with the leadership shown by Cde Chinomona. She managed to source essential products to assist women and their families. This ensures that women are able to be independent and fight to make sure they put food on the table for their families,” said Cde Masuku.
Also present at the event was Minister of State for Bulawayo Provincial Affairs Cde Judith Ncube. @mthabisi_mthire.
