THE late liberation war hero and assistant director in the President’s Department, Cde Moses Ncube, who passed away last week was yesterday laid to rest at his homestead in Zvishavane with senior Government officials applauding him for serving the organisation with loyalty and distinction.

President Emmerson Mnangagwa conferred liberation war hero status on Cde Ncube who died last Sunday aged 55, after failing to recover from a stroke. Addressing mourners at the burial ceremony at Busvumani Village, Chief Masunda, Minister of State for National Security Cde Owen Ncube said President Mnangagwa highly regarded Cde Ncube, for serving the department with merit.

“On behalf of the President’s Department, we convey our deepest heartfelt condolences to the Ncube family on the untimely death of their beloved son. Today we are gathered at the Ncube homestead who was declared a provincial hero by His Excellency the President of Zimbabwe and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces Cde Emmerson Mnangagwa. Today we are gathered here to pay our respects to one of the gallant sons of the soil,” he said.

Minister Ncube said one of the liberation war hero’s endearing attributes was that he was not swayed by the G40 cabal whose machinations permeated the hierarchy of the otherwise respected organisation.

“Today the department has lost a dedicated cadre who was a fountain of wisdom, a man who was not moved by thick storms but one who stood bold against all odds. He was not even contaminated by the G40 cabal which wanted to reverse the gains of the liberation struggle. Even His Excellency the President of Zimbabwe Cde Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa has sent his message of condolence through our good offices to the Ncube family,” he said.

Midlands Minister of State for Provincial Affairs Cde Larry Mavima said Cde Ncube’s death was a big loss to the province.
“On behalf of the whole Midlands community, I want to express my heartfelt condolences to the Ncube family. Having known Cde Ncube for many years I am personally deeply saddened. He was a man who helped me to get into the political arena as he paved my way. We were together from the time he started not to feel well. I am really saddened that he has left us at such an age. I especially regret that Cde Ncube did not regret the new dispensation that we now have.”

Cde Ncube was born on 10 December 1963 and joined the President’s Department on 23 June, 1986. He was deployed to various parts of the country before rising through the ranks to become Divisional Intelligence Officer in 1999.

In 2000, the organisation appointed him as its liaison officer in Russia before he returned and promoted to Provincial Intelligence Officer in 2006. In 2013, he was promoted to the rank of assistant director and later served as assistant director for planning and coordination unit. Other Cabinet Ministers, July Moyo and Winston Chitando, the President Department’s deputy director Mr Aaron Nhepera, Members of Parliament and other senior officials attended the burial.
