THREE Gwanda villagers died on the spot while three others were seriously injured when a vehicle they were travelling in veered of the road and rammed into two trees.

Matabeleland South acting provincial police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Joram Sithole confirmed the incident which occurred last Monday around 10pm in Ntepe area.

He said Melusi Ndlovu (39) of Guyu area was driving a Toyota Corsa vehicle with five passengers along Gwanda-Guyu Road.

He said when Ndlovu reached the 41km peg he lost control of the vehicle.

“I can confirm that there is an accident which occurred at the 41 kilometre peg along Gwanda-Guyu Road. Melusi Ndlovu was driving towards Guyu area with five passengers on board when he lost control of the vehicle. The car veered to the left and rammed into two trees before coming to a halt. Glends Maphosa (24), Nhlanhla Ndlovu (30) and Sabelo Ndlovu (30) all from Guyu area died on the spot after sustaining head injuries,” he said.

Asst Insp Sithole said the driver and the other two passengers sustained injuries and the driver was admitted to the United

Bulawayo Hospitals while the other two were admitted to Gwanda Provincial Hospital.

He urged motorists to exercise caution when travelling, especially at night.

Ntepe Ward councillor Phineas Maphosa said the incident had left the community shaken as the deceased were from the same area.

“This incident left us really shocked because we didn’t expect it. All these people who were travelling in that car are from my ward though different villages. They were on their way from Ntepe Business Centre going to their homes when the incident occurred. They are not related but they are peers. “We have buried the accident victims. It’s saddening to lose young lives as they are our hope for the future,” he said.
