POLICE in Bulawayo on Friday arrested two Nkulumane 12 men after they were found in possession of 19 buckets of mbanje with a street value of $49 000.

Samuel Sithole whose age was not given and Clever Jaricha (52) of Number 13120 and 14455 in Nkulumane 12 respectively were found in possession of mbanje after the drug sniffer dog unit carried out a raid and search following a tip-off.

Police on Friday received information that there were some drug dealers in Nkulumane and they carried out surveillance at the two houses. Acting Bulawayo police spokesperson Assistant Inspector Abednico Ncube said after the police had proven the accuracy of the information they then conducted a raid and search at the two houses.

“After proving that the information was correct and on the same date at about 4pm a team of drug sniffer dogs carried out a raid and search at House Number 13120 Nkulumane where the first accused — Sithole resides and recovered cobs of dagga from the wardrobe and loose dagga by the bedside,” he said.

The team then proceeded to House Number 14455 where the second accused, Jaricha, resides and recovered 19 buckets of mbanje, 15 buckets were under the bed, one bucket behind the sofa and three in a bathing dish which was on the wall.

Asst Insp Ncube said police would continue carrying out raids and arrest more culprits because there was a nexus to criminal activities that were affecting communities such as rape, murder, unlawful entry to property, reckless driving which he said was encouraged by the use of the drug.

“Police will continue with the raids because there is a connection to criminal activities that are affecting communities which include rape, murder, unlawful entry to property, reckless driving of which those who commit such crimes get courage from the drug. As police we want to thank the community for working effectively with us in reducing crime because alone we cannot do it but we need to work hand in glove with the community,” he said.

The recovered dagga was obtained from Mozambique for resale locally, sources said.
