A 13-year-old girl died while three were seriously injured when a white Toyota Hiace and a grey Honda Fit collided head on at the junction of Percy Ibbotson Road and TM turn-off in Bulawayo’s Cowdray Park on Wednesday.
Bulawayo police spokesperson Inspector Abednico Ncube said the cause of the accident was to failure to keep a proper lookout by Melusi Ndebele who was driving a grey Honda Fit. A charge of culpable homicide has been preferred against him and he is yet to produce his driver’s licence.
“A female juvenile aged 13 years Thandi Tshuma from Cowdray Park died on the spot and her body was ferried to United Bulawayo Hospitals for a post-mortem,” he said.
Insp Ncube said the mother of the deceased, an adult aged 33 sustained head injuries while Melusi had a fracture in his right leg while the other driver only identified as Bheki who was driving a white Toyota Hiace was said to be having chest pains.
They were all ferried to Mpilo Central Hospital.
“The vehicles were towed to Bulawayo Traffic West awaiting examination by the VID in Bulawayo and we also appeal to the members of the public to obey the road traffic regulations,” said Insp Ncube.
