A PLUMTREE sex worker has submitted an affidavit seeking to withdraw her rape case against a police officer who had hired her services.
The complainant in December last year dragged Robson Ravurai (24) to court after accusing him of raping her.
In her affidavit, the complainant stated that she wanted to withdraw malicious damage to property and rape charges she had laid against her former client.

“The accused person is currently at the Plumtree Remand Prison awaiting trial. I now wish to withdraw charges as the accused person had apologised and has compensated me.

“I also feel the accused person has suffered enough as he has been in remand since 30 December. I am feeling pity for his family since he has an eight-month-old baby,” read the withdrawal affidavit application.

The complainant also said she had considered that Ravurai’s family would struggle if he was jailed as he was the sole breadwinner.

Ravurai appeared in court last month after he allegedly raped the sex worker and then went on to take a bath outside the woman’s house in full view of passersby after she denied him her services.

He also destroyed the woman’s property worth $70.
Prosecuting, Ms Jane Phiri said Ravurai met the complainant at a nightclub in Plumtree Town and asked to have sexual intercourse with her and she charged him $30.

They proceeded to the complainant’s house in Mathendele area but the accused person was too drunk to be served and he spent the night there.

Ms Phiri said the following morning around 4am Ravurai insisted on having sexual intercourse with the woman without using protection but the complainant refused. He then demanded his money back and the woman gave it to him and ordered him to leave her house.

Instead of leaving Ravurai raped her once without using any protection. He became violent and destroyed two chairs and a mirror.

He then threatened to kill the complainant if she reported the matter and went on to take a bath at her doorstep in full view of neighbours and passersby.

Neighbours who first spotted the naked police officer alerted the police who attended the scene resulting in Ravurai’s immediate arrest.

He is also facing public indecency charges.
Ravurai is expected to appear in court for a verdict on the application.
