ZANU-PF yesterday hosted a Covid-19 vaccination drive at the Bulawayo Provincial office, Davies Hall as part of efforts to augment Government’s programme.

Ministry of Health officials set base at Davies Hall for the day as they vaccinated Zanu-PF members, officials and members of the public.

Zanu-PF Bulawayo Province secretary for administration, Cde Raymond Mtomba said the party is heeding Government and President Mnangagwa’s call for the nation to get vaccinated in order for the country to get back to working normally.

Cde Mtomba said leaders are community influencers and it is envisioned they will use their positions to encourage members of the public to get the jab.

“We have seen the Presidium take the lead in getting vaccinated and we as leaders we want to be able to take the lead in our communities and also get vaccinated. Once we are vaccinated, we can then go and tell people in our various communities to also get the jab.

“There is nothing to be afraid of, but it is in the best interests of the country that we should all get vaccinated if we are going to overcome the challenges that are posed by Covid-19.” Cde Mtomba said people should be wary of misinformation around vaccination but rather take a proactive approach and get information themselves as there was nothing to be afraid of. He said the programme was being spearheaded by Zanu-PF National secretary for health, Dr David Parirenyatwa.

According to the Ministry of Health and Child Welfare a total of 414 735 people had got their first dose by 30 April with 85 607 have got the second dose.

By Friday, the country had 38 257 confirmed cases, including 35 612 recoveries and 1 567 deaths.
