TWO lucky winners drove home in Honda Fit Hybrid vehicles which were the grand prizes of the Zinara Licence and Win Draw at the ZITF yesterday.
Zinara chief executive officer Mr Nkosinathi Ncube said they decided to award responsible motorists who pay their licenses on time, a deviation from promoting non-compliant motorists through exempting them from penalties during the ZITF period.

“Traditionally we have always suspended penalties during the ZITF, but we thought it is always important for us to reward good behaviour and also support those who support us through paying on time. We want those who pay to also enjoy the rewards for doing so.

“For us to do that we had to come up with various partners, invite as many as we could and there are some who came through like Zimpost and Sanctuary Insurance.

“The primary purpose of the promotion is to ensure that we all contribute towards being responsible citizens. It is important for us to make sure that everyone who drives a car or whatever kind of motor vehicle plays their part in terms of making sure that their assert is in the roads of Zimbabwe legally. For you to do so you have to pay your license fees and make sure that it is fully insured. We hope that the winners will inspire others to pay their licences on time,” said Mr Ncube.

Speaking at the same occasion, Zimpost’s acting postmaster-general Mr Maxwell Chitendeni expressed his gratitude on the partnership they have with the road authority saying it was in line with Government’s thrust of infrastructure sharing.

“Zimpost through its insurance service and its partners, Nicoz diamond and Global risk underwriting managers partnered Zinara in this promotion by sponsoring a Honda fit hybrid vehicle. This sponsorship is proof of Zimpost’s commitment to partnership which we have enjoyed with Zinara over the years in line with Government’s thrust of promoting infrastructure sharing,” said Mr Chitendeni.

Zinara

Mr Jester Mhukuta and Lethukuthula Gumbo were the lucky winners who won the grand prizes as they scooped first and second prize respectively. The Zinara licence and win draw promotion ran from 6 March to 29 April and the draw was conducted virtually. More than 1 000 other motorists won one-year licences courtesy of Zinara.

Meanwhile, the Insurance Council of Zimbabwe has reassured motorists that the third-party insurance package is not a mere procedure to secure a Zimbabwe National Roads Authority (Zinara) vehicle licence, but works if claimed.

Third party insurance is a form of liability insurance that an owner of a car/bike/vehicle purchases for protection against the claims of a third party. Any damages or losses suffered by the third party in case of an accident must be made good by the third-party insurance holder.

Speaking during a Zinara licence and win draw held at the Zimbabwe International Trade Fair yesterday, Insurance Council of Zimbabwe chairman, Mr Patrick Kusikwenyu said the facility was an insurance cover which was real.

“The third-party insurance is not there solely for you to get Zinara licensing. Third party insurance is there because it works. It can take care of the claims that come to it which obviously have been created by the driver and in which injury to the third party would have been incurred.

“So, what you will be buying is an insurance cover which is real and which can pay for claims as they come.
“We encourage everyone as they buy this insurance to just go through the terms and conditions so that they understand how it protects at the end of the day,” said Mr Kusikwenyu. — @nyeve14.
